Mission E4

The summer of 2010,  after hearing moving accounts of a friend's experiences as she lived through the earthquake in Haiti, I found myself walking off a plane in Port Au Prince,  in 100-degree heat,  with 72 other people from around the United States.

I’ve seen poverty before, but I wasn’t remotely prepared for what I saw that day.   Total destruction in every direction!   For the entire one hour and twenty minute bus ride form Port Au Prince to Carfur the scenery was unchanging!   I felt utterly hopeless.  How could we make a difference in this chaos?

During the week, my question would be answered—building, ministering, spending time with the people and children—we helped make a difference one person at a time!

My views of world disasters had always been to look away, to turn the newspaper to the next page.  I came away with a new appreciation for others in need.  I learned that the people of Haiti are incredible!   They have nothing, yet everything. They are faithful, hopeful, and an accepting people!  And I came away with an understanding that I needed to continue to help.

As of today conditions in Haiti remain largely unchanged.  While some progress is being made there is still much to do.

  • Over one million people still live in tents
  • Only 13,000 shelters have been built since the earthquakes.
  • There is still not enough food, clean water, and medical care.

Mission E4 has been on multiple mission trips to Haiti. They have helped rebuild schools and restore structures damaged in the quake. More mission trips are scheduled for the future including more re-building and establishing an orphanage for boys.

Legacy Office will be donating a percentage of all liquidation sales to this worthy cause.  Won't you help too?
